The Chakras - Sanskrit Wheels
The translation of the Sanskrit word Chakra is “wheel”. Today the term is usually associated with 7 focal points of radiant power, or vital energy, within the subtle body. Below is a picture showing where the 7 main energy points are which have a huge effect on your daily life. Chakras spin in a clockwise direction, with the lower ones in the body corresponding to issues of the material world, while your upper charkas are focused on spiritual issues and wisdom.
You are being of composed light, love & intelligence. These characteristics are the essence of pure energy. You are an energetic being. Your thoughts control the energy flow within and around you and therefore whatever you think about determines how you feel and what you experience. Different energy centres within and around the body are influenced by your thinking habits. Therefore, whatever you focus/concentrate on the most – spirituality, money, relationships, and so on, affect your energy centres. Although the body has many charkas, we tend to focus on the major ones. The 7 chakras. These chakras are found next to a hormonal gland and push vital life energy, ‘ki’, ‘chi’ or ‘prana’, through the body to ensure vitality. Your charkas are radiating and receiving energy constantly. If you hold negative thoughts, your charkas become blocked, stuck, shrunken or swollen. Chakras in this negative state can’t push through sufficient energy, therefore you can feel sluggish and out of balance. You can lose touch with your psychic abilities, and may find that certain areas of your life are not going right. If your Chakras are clear, balanced and in harmony with one another, then your energy and life will flow smoothly, experiencing calmness and inner peace in your life.

The 7 Chakras in the body

Root Chakra – Muladhara Colour: Red

Element: Earth
Associated: Will to be and survival
Controls: Legs, feet and gonads
Sense: Smell
Location: Perineum, base of spine
The root chakra is the base for all other chakras and effects their balance.
*2nd Chakra
Sacrel (spleric) Chakra - Swadhistana
Colour: Yellow
Crystal: Carnelian
Element: Water
Associated: Vitality & Sexuality
Controls: Adrenal glands and digestive system
Sense: Taste
Location: Sacral Region
The sacral chakra is the instinctual part of the body where feelings and their responses manifest.
*3rd Chakra
Solar Plexus – Manipura
Colour: Orange
Crystal: Tiger Eye
Element: Fire
Associated: Personal Power & Raw Emotion
Controls: Pancreas
Sense: Sight
Location: Solar Plexus, behind the navel
The solar plexus chakra is the emotional centre of the body, and thus very vulnerable.

Heart – Anahata
Colour: Green/Pink
Crystal: Rose Quartz
Element: Air
Associated: Heart, circulation and lower lungs
Controls: Love and compassion
Sense: Touch
Location: The spine or chest at heart level
The heart is the balance of the whole chakra system.
*5th Chakra
Throat – Vishuddha
Colour: Blue
Crystal: Lapis Lazuli
Element: Ether
Associated: Lungs, throat and respiratory system
Controls: Self-expression and creativity
Sense: Hearing
Location: The throat
The throat chakra gives the means to express oneself and be heard.
*6th Chakra
Brow or Third Eye – Anja
Colour: Indigo
Crystal: Amethyst
Element: Telepathic Energy
Associated: Intuition and intellect
Controls: Nervous system, forehead, ears and nose
Sense: Psychic
Location: Forehead between the brows
